Dr. Subhashini Jayanath is a consultant developmental paediatrician and senior lecturer at University of Malaya. Her areas of interest are autism, learning disorders, developmental delay and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
She assesses and manages patients who have: autism, social-communication disorder, ADHD, learning issues (e.g. broadbased learning issues, language-based learning issues, etc.), global developmental delay, specific developmental delay (fine motor, gross motor, language, etc.), intellectual disability, developmental coordination disorder and cerebral palsy.
Her undergraduate training was at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang. Dr. Jayanath completed a combined Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree course. Following which, she did her house officership at UMMC. Subsequently, she joined the Academic Training Scheme of University Malaya as a trainee lecturer, while undertaking postgraduate training, culminating in the Masters in Paediatrics (MPaeds) degree and gazettement as a general paediatrician.
Dr. Jayanath went on to do her sub-specialty training in the field of developmental-behavioural paediatrics. The first two years of her 3-year sub-specialty fellowship were undertaken at UMMC and the National University of Malaysia Medical Centre. This included paediatric psychiatry, paediatric neurology and developmental paediatrics postings. Her final year was at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), Melbourne. She worked as an Honourary Supernumerary Fellow at the Centre for Community Child Health (CCCH) and the Department of Developmental Medicine at RCH in 2015. She completed her sub-specialty training in 2016.
Many of the patients she sees have autism spectrum disorder of varying levels of severity. As part of her academic duties, she conducts lectures and clinical tutorials and provides mentorship of medical undergraduate and paediatric postgraduate students.
