Associate Professor Dr Choo May May is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for Ophthalmology and received M.Med for Ophthalmology from National University of Singapore. She is a member of various professional bodies including The American Cataract and Refractive Society, American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (International), the Paediatric Special Interest Group - Royal Australia-New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and the Malaysian Medical Association. She had begun her career as a house officer at the University of Malaya Specialist Centre in 1990. Her areas of expertise are : ophthalmology including cataract Surgery including phacoemulsification, glaucoma filtration surgery, laser For diabetic retinopathy and anti-VEGF treatment, glaucoma, retinal breaks and retinopathy of prematurity; strabismology (squint surgery for adults and children); and paediatric ophthalmology. Her works has been published in books and academic journals, the most recent being the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the International Journal of Ophthalmology, Case Reports in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology. For her contributions, she has been awarded the Excellent Service Certificate by the University of Malaya. She is also regularly invited as an expert speaker in her field of expertise including Asia coordinator for Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmologists (APAO) congress for 2010 and 2011. Her contributions to society includes being on the Technical Committee for Formulation of Clinical Practice Guideline for Retinopathy of Prematurity in Malaysia and she has also volunteered her expertise for Eye Screening Examination in conjunction with World Sight Day at Mines Shopping Complex, organised by Rotary Club.
