Dr Amarpreet Kaur began her medical career by graduating from The University of Wales, College of Medicine UK in 2002 (MBBCh) and subsequently completed her specialist training in Psychiatry in Nottingham, UK and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist United Kingdom (MRCPcych UK) in 2006. After working with the National Health Service (NHS)in the UK for a few years, she worked in Singapore at The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and then subsequently as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Psychiatrist at University Malaya Medical Centre, a post which she has to date. Her interests include dealing with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, schizophrenia and many other psychological issues. She and also has a special interest in Psychogeriatrics, where she leads the Psychogeriatrics referrals for the whole of UMMC. Here she deals with the older population who suffer from the above conditions and in particular dealing with Alzheimer's Dementia and other forms of memory and behavioural disturbances in this age group.
Dr Amarpreet is also a Clinical Hypnotherapist, having completed her Postgraduate Diploma with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis in 2011. Here she manages the more common issues faced by many people such as quitting smoking, weight reduction, dealing with anxiety and low self esteem, procrastination, problems with sleep and pain control to mention a few. Hypnotherapy is a gentle way that one can deal with particular issues in their lives without relying on medication.
