Associate Professor Dr Alizan Abdul Khalil began his career in the Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru in 1995 and has also served in Australia. His areas of expertise are : Surgery (Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgery), Surgery (Burn Surgery ), Surgery (Aesthetic and Body Sculpturing), Surgery (Breast OncoPlastic and Reconstruction), Surgery (Maxillofacial Reconstruction), Surgery (Hand and Microsurgery), Surgery (Paediatric plastic surgery and Cleft Lip/Palate repair), Surgery (Advance Wound Management and Reconstruction), Biochemical Genetics (Genetic Engineering and Gene Expression Analysis), Enzymology (In-vivo human antioxidant - Glutamate cysteine ligase and Glutathione ), Immunoassay (Quantitative Detection of Protein ), Bioassay Methods (Glutamate cysteine ligase enzyme assay), Medical Chemistry (High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Gas Mass Spectrometer), Technique And Instrumentation (Animal Dissection and Tissue Preparation) and Animal Physiology-Cell (Cell Culture ). He has contributed to several academic journals, the most recent being Plastic Reconstructive Surgery and the ANZ Journal of Surgery. He is a three-time recipient of the Royal Perth Hospital MRF Award presented by the Medical Research Foundation, has received scholarships from both University of Western Australia and University of Malaya and was awarded the Trainee Lecturer Award from University of Malaya in 1997. He has been invited to speak and present in his areas of expertise. He has also volunteered his services to Cambodia and Afghanistan through MERCY Malaysia.
