Dr. Alexander Loch obtained his medical degree with first class honours from Schiller University, Germany in 2001. He then went on to complete the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) as well the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom (MRCP UK) and the Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine United Kingdom (MRCEM UK). He was made Fellow of the National Heart Association of Malaysia in 2014. He underwent further training in advanced interventional cardiology in Japan.
Dr Loch’s clinical experience is extensive and includes general medicine, emergency medicine and cardiology. He is an experienced interventional cardiologist and his range of work includes pacemaker and ICD implants, complex percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty) including stenting of chronic total occlusions (CTO) and bifurcation lesions. He has vast experience in all modalities of cardiac imaging including point of care ultrasound, echocardiography and cardiac MRI.
Dr Loch is as an Associate Professor at the University of Malaya and was instrumental in developing the Masters Program in Emergency Medicine. He is currently setting up a dedicated heart failure service at University of Malaya Medical Centre. Dr Loch has carried out various research projects in cardiology and emergency medicine which have been published in international peer-reviewed journals.
