KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) — Common sense dictates that a doctor is the best source of accurate information on health.
This reminder – from the director of health at UM Specialist Centre (UMSC) Professor Dr Vicknes Waran – is timely, given the public enthusiasm of googling for information these days.
“Google cannot be referred to in total. You will want valid and precise information on the state of your health, and it is best to get a qualified medical practitioner for it,” he told Bernama at UMSC Hari Raya celebration today.
There are 240 medical specialists at UMSC who treat about 400 to 600 patients daily.
A difference between UMSC and a regular hospital is the presence of ‘super specialists’, who can be referred to in the event they are needed.
“(For example), patients needing the services of an orthopaedic surgeon will get treated by the specialist that will best serve them, such as joint replacement surgeon, trauma orthopaedic surgeon, or paediatric orthopaedic surgeon,” said Vicknes.
