Dr Jessie Anne De Bruyne graduated with distinction in Medicine from Sheffield Medical School in the UK and began her career at the Sheffield Children's’ Hospital, UK, in 1983, obtaining her MRCP in 1987. Her area of expertise is paediatric respiratory medicine and allergy (asthma/chronic lung disease/atopy) and she headed the Respiratory and Allergy Unit in the Department of Paediatrics, UMMC where she has had many patients under her care. She is an active researcher in her area of expertise and has contributed to both books and academic journals.She has received the the Excellent Service Award, University of Malaya,; the Excellent Service Certificate, University of Malaya,; She was awarded the Young Investigator Travel Award - SIOP (International Society of Paediatric Oncology)scholarship to attend and present a paper at SIOP XXVI Congress in Paris, France, 1994 and has received awards for Excellent Service from the University of Malaya in 1996, 2001, 2006,2009 & 2015.She has contributed to the training of many undergraduate and postgraduate students. Many of her students have won awards for their presentations at national and international congresses.

She is a member of various national and international professional bodies. Nationally, she is a life member of both the Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA) (previous Honorary Secretary) and Malaysian Thoracic Society (MTS), currently serving as its Honorary Treasurer, and, internationally, is a founding member of the Asia Pacific Association of Paediatric Allergy, Respirology and Immunology (APAPARI) as well as the Asian Paediatric Pulmonlogy Society (APPS). She is the Assembly Head  of the Paediatric Lung Disease Assembly of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR). As such, she has helped organise many national and international meetings. She is often invited to speak and present in her area of expertise both academically and to the lay public and has contributed to society as the Honorary Secretary of the Children's’ Asthma Club of Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan and as a Board Member of the Lung Foundation of Malaysia.
