Dr. Gan Chin Seng is a consultant paediatrician, paediatric intensivist and an associate professor at Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya (UM) and the University Of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). He is a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association, the Malaysian Paediatric Association, Malaysian Perinatal Society and Malaysian Society of Critical Care. Dr Gan started his career at the Sarawak General Hospital in 1998 before he was awarded the degree of master in paediatrics in University of Malaysia in 2005. He had served in Hospital Kuala Lumpur Institut Pediatrik and Hospital Ampang as a general paediatrician before he became a lecturer at UM in 2007. Since then Dr Gan has been treating various critical conditions of sick neonates and children in paediatric intensive care unit. He enriched his paediatric critical care medicine experience further by spending two years of fellowship in paediatric intensive care at Birmingham Children Hospital in the United Kingdom from 2012 to 2014. His areas of expertise are in general paediatrics and paediatric & neonatal critical care in both medical and surgical related conditions. He is also a national trainer of advanced paediatric life support (APLS). His research interest are in the following areas: congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN), meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS), congenital pneumonia, acute lung injury/ acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS), hospital acquired infection (HAI), paediatric and neonatal resuscitation, upper airway obstruction, severe bronchial asthma, paediatric sepsis and dengue. He has been invited to speak and share on his key areas of expertise at various conferences and scientific meetings.
